| Brundalen
secondary school is located on the outskirts of Trondheim,
Norway's third largest city. It is a school for students from
16 to 19 years of age and offers courses in both academic
and vocational studies. These include electrical installations,
plumbing, metal work, media and communications, hairdressing,
carpentry, art and design, nursery etc. It has a complement
of some 1,100 students and 200 teachers. In addition, one
section of the
school is run by a resource centre, which offers online and
in-house courses in a wide range of subjects.
The school has a considerable experience in international
work. We have taken part in previous Comenius and Leonardo
projects, as well as Grundtvig and Nordic International programmes.
We have also worked with Eastern Europe through government-financed
programmes intended to develop good standards in the tuition
of prisoners.
Over recent years, Brundalen secondary school has specialised
in offering ICT-based courses in most academic subjects and
in some vocational subjects.
Students are given the chance to learn to use ICT and LMS
(Class Fronter) in their daily work in order to develop their
skills and to adapt to a digital lifelong learning environment.
This is challenging for both students and teachers, hence
our participation in the Leonardo 'on-lang.net' project, which
will give us the opportunity to develop our computer based
learning methods as well as our web based evaluation methods
as far as foreign language learning and other subjects are
concerned.

Role
in the Project
Our
role in the Leonardo 'on-lang.net' project is to provide a
quarterly newsletter, which will be available online through
our website and through subscription to a mailing list. All
partners will contribute to the content, which will inform
interested parties about progress in the project concerning
the status and development of online evaluation methods in
general.
Moreover, we will take part in the development
of an online evaluation model based on the five basic language
skills outlined in the "Common European Framework of
Reference for Languages: Learning, teaching, assessment"
developed by the Council of Europe. We are particularly interested
in working with spoken production and spoken interaction,
since this is something that one has very little experience
in, but that we believe can be developed. We strongly believe
that the existence of such a model for formative and/or summative
evaluation will encourage students and teachers to focus more
upon the communicative aspect of language learning.
We are also interested in working across traditional
subject barriers and therefore, if possible, we intend to
use our expertise in ICT-based learning and art and design
as well as foreign languages (which includes English, French,
German and Spanish) in order to contribute to the development
of an online evaluation model.
