The involvement of the University of Molise in several communitary programmes has contributed to increasing awareness of the necessity to spread the knowledge and practice of foreign European languages. English has become an instrument of communication in most of the actions undertaken by the Institution. All other Communitarian languages – French, Spanish, German- are actively taught in all Faculties of this University; on the other hand, courses in Italian are held for all foreign exchange students who cover part of their university curricula at this Institution. The number of such students is increasing more and more. Following the above programme, the University Language Centre (CLA) has been established with the aim to integrate classroom teaching with multimedia aids for an autonomous learning approach. Among the objectives the CLA aims at researching the most adequate and modern foreign language teaching methodologies integrated with new technologies. CLA is also interested in language competence certificates according to the guidelines contained in the Common European Framework.
The interest and involvement of University of Molise in the research has favoured the incoming of foreign professors and doctoral students and researchers, which has provided for an increase in the sensitivity toward the learning and use of foreign languages even in Research Departments.
Bilateral agreements have been signed with Institutions in several foreign countries to develop projects in the different areas of research, some of them authorized and co-financed by the Italian Ministry of University and Scientific and Technological Research /Education.
Teachers will be specifically trained on a multimedia basis to produce tests and evaluate on-line, to work in a team, using foreign language communicative situations that will also provide professional evaluating contexts. A multimedia platform will be created; its educational core, supplied by a web-based platform, will be made of tests worked out by the national institutions involved in the project, according to their own professional and cultural fields.
